Low vision: A severe visual impairment that cannot be corrected by standard eyeglasses, contact lenses, medication, or surgery. Students with low vision may use a combination of sight and other senses to learn, but they often require adaptations like magnified text or enhanced lighting.
Legal blindness: A designation defined by a visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye after correction, or a visual field restricted to 20 degrees or less. While legally blind, many students still have some usable vision.
Total blindness: A complete lack of light perception, meaning the student must use alternative methods like Braille and auditory cues to access information.
